The Republican Party of Grant County held a rally in Gough Park to honor President Donald Trump and American workers. Supporters and members held signs and took part in a potluck lunch, including hamburgers and hot dogs.
Not everyone agreed with the sentiments of the signs. Two showed up with opposing signs and were invited to partake in the lunch, but demurred. Many honked their horns in agreement, but at least one passing dog walker had verbal comments to make supporting his opinion at variance with the signs. Other passing vehicles gave vulgar hand gestures and expressed themselves in language not appropriate for a family newspaper.
Later in the event, a vehicle drove by and pelted the sign holders with raw eggs, hitting at least two of those supporting their position and opinion.
[Editor's opinion here: This is behavior not appropriate for peaceful rallies in Silver City, whichever side or sides of a discussion you support. Let's keep our freedom of speech free of violence. Let's show the world Silver City is a good place to live, whatever opinion you espouse.]
