Walkers head up 11th Street in downtown Silver City.
On Saturday morning, walkers raised funds to support local military veterans and raise awareness for local military organizations. Started by veteran Mike Lopez, it was later renamed, in honor of fallen hero James H. Pirtle, who was killed in Afghanistan. Originally the walk was from Hurley to Deming, but Saturday’s walk was a three-mile circuit between Old James Stadium and downtown Silver City. The funds raised will purchase Thanksgiving food baskets for those in need.
