Lordsburg, NM - On Friday, October 6, 2017, around 5:00p.m., the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was requested to investigate an officer-involved shooting in Lordsburg, New Mexico.

New Mexico State Police investigators responded and learned that just prior in the afternoon, Lordsburg Police Department officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Gale Street in Lordsburg. The officers made contact with the suspect, 34-year-old Winston Ford of Lordsburg, who had a pistol in his waistband.

Officers attempted to speak with Mr. Ford who shot one round at the officers striking a patrol vehicle. The bullet went through the driver's side window, traveled through the front passenger seat headrest, and lodging into the door frame. Officer Aaron Salazar, a six-year veteran of the Police Department, returned fire at Mr. Ford, striking him. Mr. Ford was transported to University Medical Center in El Paso by air ambulance and is currently in stable condition.


This incident is being investigated by the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau, with no further information available at this time. Upon completion of this investigation, the case will be forwarded to an assigned district attorney for review.
