On Nov. 1, representatives of Freeport-McMoRan Copper and Gold Inc. New Mexico Operations delivered meat to the Gospel Mission and El Refugio Inc. domestic violence shelter.

According to Freeport Community Development Director Kevin Cook, the company purchased two steers, two hogs and a lamb at the Grant County Fair Junior Livestock Auction. The young men and women who sell the animals they have raised all year to show at the fair put the money into their college funds.

"We feel it's a double win for us," Cook said. "We support causes in the community, and the students and their future college careers."

A full steer and a full hog, processed by Willcox Packing Co., were delivered to El Refugio. Gospel Mission got a full steer, a full hog and a lamb.
