The Kiwanis Club of Silver City held its Fifth Annual Holiday Sing-Off, which various schools vying for the prizes. The event, held this year on Dec. 1, also features the lighting of the Gough Park gazebo, where it is held.

Four schools participated this year, in order of appearance Cobre High School Key Club, singing Silent Night; Silver High School Key Club, starting with Silent Night and morphing into a rambunctious Jingle Bell Rock;  G.W. Stout Elementary K-Kids, with three numbers, Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells and Santa Claus is Coming to Town; and La Plata Middle School Builders Club, singing Have a Holly, Jolly Christmas and Little Drummer Boy.

Before the winners were named, a representative of the Silver Key Club announced the prize, if they won one, would go to Toys for Tots.

The judges came through with their unanimous listing, with second runner-up being Cobre; first runner-up La Plata; second place went to Silver Key Club; and first to an enthusiastic group of G.W. Stout Elementary students.

Organizers from the schools included Jill Hare, Julie Otto, Jennifer Starsky, Ben Duran and Cheryl Fowler. Kiwanians John Baumberger and Dottie Pfeiffer organized the groups. Kiwanians Lori Bonomo served as master of ceremonies and Alma Carson had someone pick the order of the groups. Sponsors included Western Bank, Ace Hardware and 1st Savings Bank, where the participants headed after the winners were named to have refreshments.
