At the Silver City Art Association meeting held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, members honored artist Lois Duffy for her many years serving as arts ambassador for Silver City.

Diane Kleiss, SCAA board member, said, as the art association begins its 20th year as an art association in Silver City, "The only way we got here is a lot of people volunteering. One person had this idea—Lois Duffy, and she got it going."

Kleiss said Duffy, for the many years of the art guide, has been the organizer of it, as well as the writer of each year's application for Silver City Lodgers' Tax to pay for the guide. "We wanted to honor her. She warned us two years ago that she would not be doing the guide starting in 2018."

"I couldn't have done (the guide) without Patricia Taber," Duffy said. "She's the one who laid it out and put it together."

Diana Ingalls Leyba brought out a bag and pulled an etched glass block out of it and presented it to Duffy. "It is your self-portrait etched in glass by Paula Geisler."

"I did not do this organization by myself," Duffy said. "There are many, who were instrumental in the beginning, as well as those continuing the association. I will continue to participate, but I'm handing over responsibilities to others. I won't give up my painting or my gallery."
