The City of Bayard Council meeting on January 22, 2018 began at 2 p.m. after a work session that was approximately 20 minutes long. Mayor Pro Tem Chon Fierro, Councilor Zeke Santa Maria, Councilor Raul Villanueva, and Councilor Adrian Ortiz attended. Mayor Charles Kelly was unable to attend.

During Public Input Johnny Montenegro of Copper Little League took the floor. He thanked the council for the improvements at the little league fields and asked about further renovations to get the field ready for the season. Painting of the clubhouse and dugouts needs to be done as well as help maintaining the concession area.

Villanueva said the council already received a list of items to help improve. Those items included painting, replacing benches, and capping the fence. "I'm glad to see someone making improvements," Santa Maria said.

As for the renaming of the field from Cyclone Field to the Ernie Christian Little League field, Montenegro asked the council to either keep the Cyclone name or to make sure they continue to honor Reynaldo Venegas, whose nickname was "Cyclone."

Montenegro said work still needs to be done in the concession area. Clerk Kristina Ortiz said the refrigerators and concession equipment has never been the responsibility of the council, but she will look into how to assist the other parts of the project.

Opening ceremonies for the Little League will be March 17.

Council took action on two resolutions, resolution 5-2018 to acquire new police units and 6-2018 to make budget adjustments. The police vehicles will be paid in part by the funds coming back from the insurance claim from the wrecked vehicle last fall. Budget adjustments are made to keep appropriate amounts in each fund.

The next meeting for the City of Bayard Council happens Monday, February 12, 2018 at 2 p.m. following a short work session. The public is invited to attend.
