According to a Silver City Police Department statement of probable cause, at approximately 2:09 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7, a patrolling officer observed an open door at a residence at 204 1/2 W. 12th Street. The officer also noticed a broken window adjacent to the open front door. Looking inside the unoccupied residence, the officer saw a person covered with sheets in a bed in the living room.

The person was identified as Casey Munoz, 26, homeless, of Silver City. Munoz stated he did not live at the residence. He then was placed in investigative detention and in the back of the officer's patrol unit and transported to the Grant County Detention Center. Munoz was charged with breaking and entering.

Munoz remains in the GCDC under a $7,500 cash or surety bond, according to GCDC staff.
