Wednesday morning at Gough Park, members of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 358 raised new flags on the poles at Gough Park.

Town Councilor José Ray Jr. said Silver City donated the American flag, the New Mexico flag and installed lights so the flags can fly 24 hours a day.

Veterans present to help with the flag raising were Julian Jacquez, Henry Morales, David Pratesi, Paul Madrid and Ray.

Also raised was a P.O.W.-M.I.A. flag donated by LULAC Chapter 8003. Fred Baca and Frank Salcido raised the flag.

Ray also announced that on Good Friday, a walk, organized by the Knights of Columbus, would take place from the Pinos Altos Catholic Church, beside the cemetery on New Mexico 15, up to Cross Mountain beginning at 10 a.m. Ray also said a lot of work has been done at the small church, and Father Oliver Obele of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Silver City will start saying Masses there on May 5.

Ray acknowledged Edward Diaz and Lorenzo Flores of Silver City Facility Maintenance for installing the cables and lights.
