Summary: The Meadow Fire is burning on Forest Service lands north of Signal Peak. Initial attack crews responded with full suppression strategy. There continues to be smoke in the interior of the fire and crews are continuing to work on mop-up and security the edges.
General Fire Information: Mopping up is part of fire operations and involves patrolling the perimeter of the fire; extinguishing or removing burning material near the control lines, felling snags, and trenching logs to prevent rolling after an areas has burned. The purpose being to make a fire safe and/or to reduce residual smoke.
Smoke may continue to be visible in Pinos Altos and surrounding areas. Smoke from fire rises up and away during the daytime, but in the evening smoke can pool back down in canyons, drainages, and basins. Smoke-sensitive individuals and people with respiratory or heart disease are encouraged to take precautionary measures.
