Summary: The Spurgeon Fire, was burning on National Forest System lands, on Glenwood Ranger District in Catron County, NM. It was on both sides of US Hwy 180, mile post 39, north of Alma, NM, and called 100% contained on June 12.

The Gila National Forest is in Stage 2 Fire Restrictions. For detailed information, please refer to Forest Order 06-18-006. Fire was reported as a vehicle driving on a flat tire. The forest wishes to remind the public of the One Less Spark messaging that reminds us to “Be Wheel Safe” and check tire pressure. Driving on an exposed wheel rim throws sparks. In addition, New Mexico continues to be very dry and parking or idling over tall grasses could cause a fire.
