Brad Farrington, 31, of Silver City, was convicted by a jury of his peers in Silver City’s 6th Judicial District Court in front of Judge Jarod Hofacket on Thursday, Aug. 16, of first degree murder in the death of Farrington’s estranged wife, Cassy Farrington, 23. Cassy was found unresponsive in a bathtub full of water at her home on Mahogany Drive in October 2015.

After his October, 2015 arrest in Arizona, Farrington, a former Silver City police officer, was released on conditions, but upon yesterday’s verdict was remanded to the Grant County Detention Center.

According to George Zsoka, lead prosecutor in the case for the District Attorney’s office, the estimated 10 men and two women jury began deliberations about 3 p.m. on Thursday, the 16th, and announced their verdict at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Zsoka told the Beat that Farrington seemed fairly stoic as the verdict was read.

A sentencing hearing has yet to be set, Zsoka said, and depends on the schedules of the presiding judge and the victim’s family, but he expects it to be determined within 30 days.
