Brad Farrington, 31, of Silver City, at a Friday, Sept. 7, 2018 sentencing hearing, was given the mandatory term of life in prison by Judge Jared Hofacket in Silver City’s 6th Judicial District Court. According to George Zsoka, lead prosecutor, Farrington will not be eligible for parole for 30 years.

Farrington was convicted by a 12-person jury on Aug. 16, 2018, in front of the same judge and in the same court, of first-degree murder in the death of his estranged wife, Cassy Farrington, in October 2015.

Although the family of the victim spoke to the court during the sentencing hearing about the effect this murder had on them, Zsoka stated that it made little difference what was iterated—the sentence was mandatory.

The Luna County Department of Corrections will determine where Farrington’s sentence will be served, Zsoka said. In the meantime, he will remain at the Grant County Detention Center, according to GCDC staff.
