A Grant County sheriff’s deputy was dispatched for an alarm call to 50 Camino Verde in Arenas Valley, on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2018, at about 4:48 p.m.

When the deputy arrived at the home about 15 minutes later, according to a Grant County Sheriff’s Department narrative, a male was observed inside the home apparently stuffing something into a bag. With sidearm and flashlight drawn, the deputy ordered the male outside and to lie prone. The male complied, the narrative stated, and the deputy handcuffed the male’s hands behind his back.

The male was identified as Jeremy Padilla, no age or address given, and he had an active warrant.

The deputy then advised, according to the narrative, that a door on the other side of the home that was shut when the deputy first walked by, was now open. After notifying the Grant County Regional Dispatch Authority that there might be another person fleeing the residence, two New Mexico State police officers arrived, and the home was cleared.

Upon entering the home, the narrative said that officers observed a large mesh bag full of stuff, a single-shot 12-gauge shotgun on the living room floor, a green suitcase, and a large number of drawers which appeared to have been opened and gone through.

An assistant district attorney approved charges against Padilla of aggravated burglary, criminal damage to property, and attempt to commit a larceny. Padilla was placed under arrest for those charges and also for an active warrant, according to the narrative. Padilla was taken to GDSD for questioning and then to the Grant County Detention Center.
