On Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, at approximately 3 a.m. officers responded to a weapons fired call in the area of 1223 Glenda Circle. Grant County Regional Dispatch Authority communications personnel told officers there were several callers reporting 4-8 gun shots. Officers initially had contact on scene with Billy Barragan, 26, of Silver City, and Natasha Maldonado, 25, also of Silver City, who were exiting a 1219 Glenda Circle residence.

According to police reports, several cartridge cases were observed on the ground of a driveway on 1219 Glenda Circle and one case was discovered across the street from this address.

When questioned, the reports stated, Barragan indicated he had no weapons on his person, however a pat down search revealed a Smith & Wesson semi-automatic pistol with a fully-loaded magazine tucked in the waistband of his pants and covered by his shirt. The officer observed Barragan to be under the influence of alcohol. Barragan, the reports stated, was placed under arrest and transported to the Silver City Police Department for paperwork and then booked into the Grant County Detention Center.

Maldonado, who initially stated she did not know what was going on but needed to go to the hospital to see her cousin, was determined to have an outstanding warrant, the reports said. After placing her under arrest, Maldonado was transported to SCPD for paperwork and booked into the GCDC.

Officers were advised that a subject at the Gila Regional Medical Center was being treated for a gunshot wound, according to the reports. Grant County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to GRMC where they made contact with a male victim, who had been shot in the right thigh.

Barragan has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and negligent use of a deadly weapon.

According to GCDC staff, both Barragan and Maldonado were released the same day they were booked, Oct. 13, Barragan on a court-ordered release and Maldonado bonded out on the warrant hold.
