At its Oct. 23, 2018 meeting, Assistant Town Manager James Marshall recommended council approve the bid of $160,131.60, including gross receipts tax, from Southwest Concrete and Paving of Silver City for an overlay of 32nd Street between Silver Street and Ridgecrest Drive. The project is scheduled for Nov. 15-17, Marshall said, and two lanes will be kept open at all times. Marshall said there is money already in the budget for the project.

Silver City Police Chief Freddy Portillo announced the second annual ‘Trunk or Treat’ will be held Friday, Oct. 26, from 5-9 p.m., at Stout Elementary School. Free food will be available. Cost is $2 for individuals and $5 for groups. Portillo said that other law enforcement agencies have been invited to participate.

Portillo encouraged residents to be especially careful when driving during the Hallowe’en season and to call the Grant County Regional Dispatch Authority at 388-8840 to report any suspicious or criminal behavior.

According to Portillo, the SCPD will be open Saturday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for residents to dispose of unwanted prescription medicines.

Council approved a notice of intent ordinance which would amend the town’s municipal code regarding election of town officers. Town Attorney Robert Scavron explained, “Previously the town had adopted the state’s municipal code as its own, but that body of law was repealed as a consequence of the state passing legislation commonly known as the Election Act of 2018. After due consideration, the staff and I are recommending that the town adopt a local election act of 2018, with certain modifications, as its election code. The town’s local elections will be called municipal officer elections. But, the manner of conduct of those elections will not have (be) significantly changed from what the town has been doing in past years.” This NOI can be seen in its entirety on the town’s website.

District 4 Councilor Guadalupe Cano encouraged residents to get out and vote on Nov. 6, or to vote early or absentee, and to pay special attention to the bond issues.

Nick Seibel was re-appointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission.
