The Grant County Business Expo, sponsored by Freeport-McMoRan Copper and Gold Inc., and hosted by the Western New Mexico University Small Business Development Center, featured businesses from throughout the area offering information about their services and products.
The event kicked off with a luncheon speaker, Jerome Wade, a business consultant, who described himself as a man with 25 years of experience in the C-Suite, as well as a global expert on executive fatigue.
He explained his talk was on how to get what you want without losing what you love. He said business leaders "want it all, underestimate what it takes and forget the basics."
The first question he asked the participants to answer was: "What do I want?" Wade asked participants to be precise, clear and exact when defining what they want. Then get their team together to go through what is expected of each team member.
He said leaders have to measure their commitment and intensity. Commitment is about sacrifice and intensity is the investment of energy required to get the job done.
The next question was: "What's holding me back?"
The culture of an organization may be an undefined process, with unintended behaviors and unaligned talent. The culture will determine the next level of achievement.
Wade said people should have the courage to consider what needs to be resolved, with no shame and no blame.
Execution is key. "If you never put any action toward the dream, the dream won't happen. Your dream is on the other side of your taking action."
After the talk, those attending the luncheon went into the room where the businesses were set up.
State Rep. Rebecca Dow, District 38, attended. She told the Beat: "I'm always looking for solutions. We need more producers. I like being around people with an entrepreneurial spirit."
