Local author and editor of the Grant County Beat, Mary Alice Murphy, signed copies of her new book, “God’s Umbrella, Southwest New Mexico World War II Survivors” at the Silver City Museum Saturday afternoon. Murphy gathered the stories of these men and women over a period of years and incorporated them into the book.
Two of the men whose stories are in “God’s Umbrella” attended the signing and answered questions about their experiences. They also signed the pages in which their stories were told.
"I'm so glad I had the opportunity to interview these heroes of World War II before they left us," Murphy said. "It was a labor of love to preserve these small bits of our history."
Murphy will also be signing her book on December 4 at the Silver City Public Library at 4:00 pm and again on December 8 at the Silver City Museum at 10:00 am. She invites more WWII veterans to participate and talk with the attendees about their experiences.
