SILVER CITY-Each year New Mexico State University’s College of Agriculture, Consumer and Environmental Science along with several organizations puts on the New Mexico Youth Ranch Management Camp. This camp is an intensive five-day hands-on camp all about cattle ranching. Youths from around the state of New Mexico and the nation compete for limited positions at the camp. The camp is held on CS Ranch in Cimarron, NM June 9-14, 2019.

News came in early this week that Grant County 4-H has another youth that was accepted into Ranch Management Camp.

Randi White was also selected among the top youths that will be attending this year’s camp. Youths will be learning everything about the cattle industry and cattle ranching from standard cuts of beef, to cattle reproduction, genetics, nutrition, animal welfare as well as get practice on preparing and presenting a loan proposal to a panel of judges as if they were submitting the proposal to a banker.

Randi will be receiving three credit hours from NMSU upon her completion of the camp toward a degree in agriculture from NMSU.

“I am so proud that we have not one, but two youths from Grant County that are attending this camp” Grant County Extension Ag Agent Jessica Swapp said.

“This will be an experience they will never forget and will benefit them immensely in their adult careers” added Swapp.
