At approximately 4:52 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, a Silver City police officer was dispatched to Hidalgo Medical Services, 1007 Pope Street, in relation to a stabbing. According to an incident report, a 43-year-old male from Silver City reported being stabbed about four hours earlier as he walked on Gold Street near 15th Street, by an unknown assailant. The victim stated a Hispanic male with tattoos went up to him and stabbed him in the left chest. He said it felt like a punch but a few seconds later he noticed blood where he had been hit. The victim continued walking home.

About 4:50 p.m., the report said, the victim decided to go to HMS as the wound was hurting and HMS personnel advised him to go to the ER at GRMC. The officer met the victim at HMS and followed the ambulance to interview the victim at the hospital.

According to the report, at GRMC’s ER, the victim said he had never seen the male before, but was able to identify, from an unnamed jail photo, Macario Arroyos, 29, of Silver City, as the person who had stabbed him. Arroyos had been arrested in the same area a little before 1 p.m. that same day for running into someone’s house who did not know him.

Arroyos was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and remains incarcerated at the Grant County Detention Center.
