Summary:
The lightning-caused Canteen Fire is approximately 9 acres, burning on National Forest System lands, Grant County, NM. This fire lies within the boundaries of the Gila Wilderness, east of Mogollon Creek and north of the Gila River Box Canyon area.

Fire is exhibiting low to moderate effects with some isolated torching and received some light precipitation last night. It is highly visible from US Hwy 180, the Cliff/Gila communities and surrounding areas. Crews will be scouting to gather information on size and assessing potential for growth. Weather forecast show a chance of the fire area receiving precipitation over the next several days.

Smoke from fire rises during the daytime, but in the evening can pool down in canyons, drainages, and basins.
