Planned Activity: The Escondido Wildland Fire Module will scout and assess Trail #125 and #761. The FS engine will patrol and hold FSR 35. Firefighters will conduct a light prep on the north side of FSR 35, and if weather conditions materialize crews will burn FSR 35 west to Trail #125 to secure the road.

Summary: The lightning-caused Mail Fire Is burning on National Forest System lands in Catron County, New Mexico. This fire is located on the top of the San Francisco Divide, immediately south of Forest Service Road (FSR) 35, east of Mail Trail #125 and west of Spur Trail #761. The fire is burning in steep terrain where there are numerous dead trees. Smoke will be visible from US Hwy 180, Hwy 12, and the communities of Luna and Reserve.

Smoke from fire rises during the daytime, but in the evening can pool down in canyons, drainages, and basins.
