On Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, the Allingham-Golding American Legion Post 18 hosted a picnic for veterans at the Gomez Peak Picnic area. Burgers and hot dogs and all the fixings, including potato salad and lots of desserts and cold beverages were on hand to feed veterans and their families.
Games entertained adults and kids alike. By 1 p.m., more than 50 people had shown up, including two World War II veterans, Bill Harrison and Dan McBride, who were seen chatting.
Festivities would go on until 6 p.m., so more veterans likely showed up to visit friends and make new ones.
