September 12, 2019, Silver City, NM – Gila Regional Medical Center (GRMC), a 68-bed acute care hospital serving Grant County in southwest New Mexico, hosted over 50 members of the GRMC Auxiliary at an annual banquet to honor the volunteers. Auxilians provide information and assistance throughout the hospital for patients, staff, and visitors. In 2019, volunteer hours per person ranged from 100 to over 9,000 hours.

The luncheon is held annually to recognize the Auxiliary for their dedicated service. This year held special significance as the Auxiliary marks its 50th Anniversary as a non-profit service organization affiliated with GRMC. At the luncheon, the Mayor of Silver City, Ken Ladner proclaimed the month of October a time of celebration for the Auxiliary’s 50 years of service. Honored guest Andrea Lohse offered congratulations from the New Mexico Hospital Association State Auxiliary.

In addition to awards given to auxiliary for their number of hours served during the year, an Auxilian of the year is chosen. This year, it was Molly Healy.

Applications to become a volunteer with the Auxiliary are available from 8 am to 4 pm at the Information Desk located in the hospital’s front entrance. Those interested in learning more about volunteering or just wish to offer congratulations are encouraged to stop by and sign up.
