According to Silver City Police Chief Freddie Portillo, the Grant County Regional Dispatch Authority received a call Wednesday morning, Oct. 9, 2019, about 10:50 from a male threatening to ‘shoot up the school,’ who then hung up. SCPD went into high gear with “everyone responding,” even calling back to duty those who has already worked the shift before. Within minutes, Portillo said, a fluid perimeter at the high school was set up with assistance from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, fluid, to be able to respond to another school if need be.

Dispatchers couldn’t provide an age for the male caller, but they thought he might have been older, Portillo said. Nothing suspicious was found by officers.

SCPD stood down, the area being cleared, at 12:35, Portillo stated, while Silver High School lifted their lock-down at 12:00 noon, Extra officers and extra patrols were ordered and were still in effect on Thursday, Oct. 10, according to Portillo.
