The Ninth Annual Challenging Child Conference, sponsored by Western New Mexico University Early Childhood Programs, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 21, at the Cobre High School Performing Arts Center, 1300 Tom Foy Street, in Bayard, NM.

Ginny Luther will presentPart 2 of Conscious Discipline, a research-based approach for all age groups to decrease aggression, increase academic achievement, decrease impulsivity/hyperactivity, create a positive school climate and increase teaching time. The event is funded by a Title II Teacher Quality Improvement Grant; El Puente.

The cost for registration is $25 for individuals, $20 for students, $100 for a provider group of four to six people, and $200 for a provider group rate for seven to 12 people or $50 per person at the door. Those registering and paying will receive a sack lunch.

A Friday evening workshop, Introduction to Experiential Play Therapy from 5:30-8:30 p.m. will be an additional opportunity for teachers and parents. The session will be led by Courtney Lewis. The evening event costs $30 per person paid at the door.

Those wishing to participate in the day's activities are asked to register by Oct. 14.

Profession continuing education credits can be earned at the events.
