ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - On the heels of voting to approve legislation to put teachers and first responders back to work, U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) will visit Quemado on Tuesday to discuss rural education initiatives with school faculty.

The Teachers and First Responders Back to Work Act (S. 1723), the first piece of legislation voted on as part of President Obama's larger American Jobs Act, was unable to overcome a filibuster in the Senate late Thursday. This bill would have provided $30 billion to states, including $200 million in N.M. to support up to 3,100 jobs in early childhood, elementary, and secondary education.

Upon arrival in Catron County, Udall will meet with Quemado Independent Schools Superintendent Bill Green and then speak with Quemado teachers over lunch. After the meetings, Udall will hold a special assembly with the elementary school students, to read House Mouse, Senate Mouse and answer their questions.
