Medicaid Re-Design Town Hall Discussion; 550,000 New Mexicans Impacted

Governor Martinez is re-designing Medicaid - the program that provides health care to 550,000 children, people with disabilities, seniors, and very low income adults in New Mexico. Recipients and advocates will gather in Albuquerque for a town hall to ask the Governor to explain how the redesign will impact them.

On Monday (Nov. 7) at 10:00 a.m, Medicaid recipients and advocates will deliver more than 450 personal "picture invites" to Governor Martinez's Roundhouse Office, inviting her to hear directly from Medicaid recipients during Wednesday night's town hall. On Wednesday (Nov. 9), Medicaid recipients and advocates will gather at a town-hall meeting to discuss the anxieties felt by recipients, including proposals to add or increase co-pays and fees for services, reduce eligible services, and increase eligibility requirements to prevent currently eligible recipients from continuing to receive assistance.

Participants will ask the Governor to:
-   Support quality health care for everyone;
-   Oppose any/all cuts to Medicaid services;
-   Oppose pushing Medicaid costs onto low-income people through new premiums or co-payments;
-   Encourage 100% of eligible New Mexicans to enroll in Medicaid and Medicare;
-   Support changes in Medicaid that will make enrolling in, staying enrolled in and utilizing the program as easy as possible; and
-   Encourage long term care and support for seniors and people with disabilities that emphasize home and community based services and eliminates the long wait list for these vital programs.

The town-hall event is free and open to the public.
