"Unlocking the Past of the Spanish Jews in New Mexico," a Special Brown Bag Presentation at the Museum Annex: Thursday, November 10, 2011, 12 pm

Historian Elsie Galaz Roman will give a presentation entitled "Unlocking the Past of the Spanish Jews in New Mexico," at the Museum Annex, 302 West Broadway, at 12pm on Thursday, November 10, 2011. The Museum Annex is located at the northwest corner of Broadway and Arizona, in the former PNM building.

Elsie Galaz Roman is a long-time educator and a passionate historian, who once served as principal of San Lorenzo Elementary School. Her great-grandfather was one of the founders of San Lorenzo, and she brings both a personal and academic perspective to the history of our region. Much of her academic work and inspiration comes from the writing of anthropologist Adolph Bandelier, who visited the Mimbres Valley and wrote with precise detail about the people he encountered. Thursday's presentation will focus on Mrs. Roman's research about the Spanish Jews whose culture and ways are an influential but sometimes unfamiliar part of New Mexico's history.

The Silver City Museum creates opportunities for residents and visitors to explore, understand and celebrate the rich and diverse cultural heritage of southwestern New Mexico by collecting, preserving, researching and interpreting the region's unique history.
