The farcical Don't Drink the Water looks for its 16 Southwestern New Mexico actors during auditions at the Old Elks Lodge ballroom on Market and Texas Streets, Monday through Wednesday, August 14-16, 6:30-8:30 pm, according to director Bryce Wooton.

Silver City Community Theater will present the comedy at the Lodge on two weekends, November 10-12 and November 12-19. Read throughs with selected cast will begin the week of August 21.

A New York critic called the play "one big overfed American folk joke" and then went on to write that it is a very funny situation comedy.

"We seek actors or potential actors from middle school level to mature adults. If you've ever wanted to make an audience laugh, now is your chance," says Wooton, who has wide experience in stagecraft. He directed the popular musical Once Upon a Mattress for Theater Group New Mexico.

Don't Drink the Water by Woody Allen is set behind the Iron Curtain in cold war days. An American family takes refuge in the American embassy, pursued by police for spying. The incompetent son of the ambassador, left in charge, makes things worse, falls in love with the daughter, and at last, in a frenzy, contrives an escape.
