One of the beneficiaries of the Rotary Auction Benefit and Gala scheduled for October 7th at the Grant County Business and Convention Center will be the Life Quest Early Intervention program.

The program is the only private nonprofit provider offering Early Intervention support services to families and children in the Grant, Luna, Hidalgo and Catron county region through the New Mexico Family Infant Toddler Program (funded by Medicaid and the NM Department of Health).

Children grow and develop rapidly during their first 3 years of life. All children are special and grow and learn at their own individual pace. Some children need extra help reaching developmental milestones; this extra help is called 'Early Intervention.' Early Intervention provides pediatric developmental and therapy services for babies and toddlers up to the age of three. Services can include Occupational Therapy, Speech/Language Therapy, Physical Therapy, Family Counseling, Social Work, Vision and Hearing Screenings, Autism Screenings, Developmental Instruction and Service Coordination.

Qualifying families of all income levels receive Early Intervention services free of charge. Anyone may refer a child to Life Quest Early Intervention, but all services must be approved by the parent or guardian. Research shows that children learn best from those they know in their own natural environment which is most commonly the home but could be wherever the child lives, learns or plays.

Early Intervention professionals coach and support families on techniques that can help with everyday routines and which can be life changing for a family and child with or at risk for developmental delay. Life Quest Early Intervention staff members listen to a family's concerns and work closely with them to plan services.

Each family will have a different plan according to what is needed for their child. Infants and toddlers learn best from family and caregivers through activities in their daily lives such as feeding, bathing and playing. All services are 'family driven,' meaning that each family may decide the types of services they would like to utilize and how often.

The 2017 Rotary auction proceeds will go toward the purchase of a sedan or minivan to further enable professional developmental specialists and service coordinators to see children and families in the Grant County area in the children's natural environment where the best outcomes can be achieved.
