The Southwestern Chapter of the ACLU of New Mexico will hold its annual meeting on Friday, October 27th at the Silver City Woman's Club, 411 Silver Heights Blvd. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for light refreshments and conversation, and the program will begin at 6:00 p.m. The event is open to the public.

The keynote speaker will be Barak Wolff, MPH, who will address the topic of end of life care and aid in dying. Mr. Wolff's career in public health includes four years as the Director of the Public Health Division within the New Mexico Department of Health, where he provided leadership and supervision to the statewide public health system. For twenty years prior to that, he was Chief of EMS and Trauma Systems for the State of New Mexico. Since his retirement from State Government in 2004, Mr. Wolff has served as a policy analyst for the Senate Public Affairs Committee of the New Mexico Legislature. Mr. Wolff has become deeply involved in learning, speaking, writing, and being an advocate for improved end of life care, utilizing a public health approach to help ensure that people have the kind of death that they choose. Mr. Wolff has a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and a Master's degree in Public Health from the University of Michigan.
