Glenwood, NM, December 15, 2017—Adam Mendonca, Forest Supervisor of the Gila National Forest is happy to announce Erick Stemmerman as the Glenwood District Ranger. He will fill in behind Anne Casey who served as the prior district ranger and begin here on the Gila NF on January 22, 2018.

He comes to the Gila NF from the Olympic National Forest where he served as the Administrative Staff Officer. His academic achievements included a M.A. from San Diego State and a M.S. from Oregon State University.

In 1990 Erick began his federal career with the U. S. Navy, then transitioned in 2008 to working for the Bureau of Land Management Oregon, where he worked in fire management, and came to the Forest Service in 2013, and has worked on the Olympic, Angeles and Lassen National Forests.

Stemmerman is a 3rd generation Californian. Erick has lived in Spain, Ecuador, Chile, Germany, the Dominican Republic, New York, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington. Erick’s wife was born in Tres Piedras, New Mexico and returning to New Mexico has deep meaning to their family. The Stemmermans have two children – a son and a daughter, and are looking forwarding to joining the Gila National Forest family.
