The Silver City/Southwest New Mexico Branch of AAUW invites members, visitors and potential members to attend its annual meeting on Sunday May 20 from noon to 2:30 pm at Vicki's Eatery at 315 N Texas St. to celebrate the past year of activities.

This will be the last regular meeting until the Kick-Off meeting on September 23. However, members will have a fun summer AAUW picnic on August 25. During the summer members will plan programs for the coming year (September 2018 – May 2019) and will have a complete schedule of programs and meeting dates.

"We are encouraging new potential members to come to get to know who we are. At our Kick off meeting in September when we celebrate our 80th Anniversary we will also have a big push at a membership drive. If you are interested but can't attend this May meeting please contact me at the number below," a spokeswoman said.

The major event for over 25 years has been the Expanding Your Horizons conference which is a one day conference on the WNMU Campus where 5th to 8th grade girls from the 4 county region come to experience hands on workshops by role model women in STEM (Science, technology engineering and Mathematics) careers.

The mission statement of AAUW: Advancing equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is the nation's leading voice promoting equity and education for women and girls.
