Reserve, NM — The Gila National Forest, Reserve Ranger District is pleased to announce that the Dipping Vat Campground is open and has drinking water.
The Dipping Vat Campground is located adjacent to the west side of Snow Lake and is approximately 52 miles southeast of Reserve via Forest Road 141. There is a $5 per vehicle, per site, per night fee. Fees can be paid at the self-pay station. Campgrounds on the Gila National Forest are first-come, first serve and have a 14 day stay limit.
Gila National Forest officials remind visitors that weather and conditions can change suddenly in the high country and to be aware of potential hazards in campgrounds and on forest roads.
The Gila National Forest is in Stage 1 Fire Restrictions. Please keep in mind that campfires are only permitted in developed campgrounds with fire rings. Explosives and fireworks are always prohibited on Forest Service lands.
Always practice these campfire safety guidelines:
- Clear all flammable material away from the fire for a minimum of five feet in all directions
- Make a fire only if you have a shovel and sufficient water to put it out
- Never leave your campfire unattended
- Do not make a campfire during the windy part of the day
- Drown your campfire with water, stir with dirt making sure all burned materials are extinguished. Feel it with your hand to make sure it's out cold
- Every campfire will be put DEAD OUT before leaving it
