3699Students from Cobre High School at the Hurley Car Show raising money for an incentive trip to HawaiiTo Whom It May Concern,
I am a teacher at Cobre High School as well as the Adviser for the Class of 2019. In an attempt to increase high school graduation rates and to reduce the possibility of teenage pregnancies, I presented my students with an incentive. If they stay in school, graduate and receive a high school diploma in 2019, then I would take them on a trip to a location of their choice. The students selected the destination of Hawaii. Staying true to my word, I promised that I will take all of those who meet the graduation requirements. Each student participating in the trip needs to raise $3,000. A trip like this one is a huge incentive to these students because most of them have never really traveled outside of Grant County, with only the exception of athletic events.

As a career educator, I know that an education does not stop at the classroom. We all continue to learn new things as long as we have the skills to appreciate and assimilate the opportunities we are afforded. Before these students begin their adult lives, I want to present them with real world experiences that will remain with them for a lifetime. I want them to learn how to make sound decisions independently, how to budget their money, how to conduct themselves appropriately in unfamiliar or uncomfortable situations, and how to interact with different cultures. Additionally, most of the students who are interested in this trip have never flown before, nor have they been to the ocean.

We began fundraising for this trip in 2016 and continue to do so today. Fundraising has been designed to especially help those students who have no other source of funding. Local establishments have supported us to a limited extent, and we have really valued their contributions, but we are in desperate need of corporate funding or national sponsorships. We would greatly appreciate it if you, or your corporation, would consider donating to our ambitious endeavor. No contribution is too small. Prior to your decision, should you have questions, I may be contacted at: (575) 635-1355 or jmorris@cobre.kl2.nm.us

Thank you, in advance, for any consideration you may care to give to my request.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Judith Morris
CHS Adviser to Class of 2019
