SILVER CITY, NM — A slice of Guatemala is coming to The Commons in Silver City, located at 501 E 13th Street. On Saturday, July 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., an array of affordable, authentic Guatemalan crafts will be up for sale. The goods range from colorful fiber-art wares to handcrafted jewelry.

The Guatemalan Mercado, now an annual event, is brought to Silver City by Curt Porter, who has worked with indigenous Guatemalans since 1985. The event benefits Guatemalan Artisans as well as the Commons: Center for Food Security and Sustainability (formerly The Volunteer Center of Grant County), a local non-profit, which operates the Grant County Food Pantry in addition to various food-related and educational programs and services.

The Commons: Center for Food Security and Sustainability is a 501(c)(3) organization.
