Silver City, NM, July 18, 2018—For Immediate Release. The Conservation Corps provides young women and men with structured, safe and challenging service and educational opportunities through projects that promote personal growth, the development of social skills, and an ethic of natural resource stewardship.

The Aldo Leopold Youth Conservation Corps (ALCS YCC) crew and the Conservation Corp of New Mexico (CCNM) crew have spent part of their summer improving conditions on the Silver City Ranger District. The ALCS YCC crew spent two weeks in June working on rerouting and improving a popular segment of trail on the Ft. Bayard Trail System near Stevens Creek. Prior to their work, this trail had been unsustainable. The CCNM crew worked a segment of the Continental Divide Scenic Trail near Walnut Creek. They are implementing reroutes of trail that are unsustainable due to steep segments and poor trail alignment.

Brian Martinez, Recreation Trail Specialist stated: "The dedicated work of these two crews contribute to the good of the forest, and to the enjoyment and recreational opportunities of many of our visitors to the Gila National Forest."
