On Monday, September 3, the Grant County Democratic Party will join with representatives of Association of Federal, State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), the National Education Association, and supporters of all local unions to celebrate this year's Labor Day holiday.  The event will be held at the Democratic campaign office at 113 E. College, at the head of Bullard St., at noon on Monday. Speakers will include Manny Maldonado, AFSCME; Justin Wecks, former Silver Schools District steward; and Karen Whitlock, Democratic candidate for State Representative District 38.

"We are always glad to stand together in solidarity with our union brothers and sisters," stated Democratic Party County Chair Frances Vasquez.  "Labor Day is a time to recognize and honor the enormous contribution labor unions and their members have made to our society.  Unions have provided workers the strength to bargain for fair wages, reasonable hours, safe working conditions, and fair treatment on the job.  When we celebrate Labor Day, we are acknowledging unions' delivery over the past 100 years of the eight-hour day, the weekend, and the prosperity of the broad middle class in America.  And here in Grant County, we are also remembering and honoring the famous "Salt of the Earth" strikers and their descendants," Chairwoman Vasquez added.  "It's a tradition of strength, community, and inclusion we need to nurture in our own time."

The public is invited to join the festivities.
