The Grant County Democratic Party will hold its September monthly meeting at the Bayard Community Center, 290 Hurley Ave., Bayard, on Wednesday, September 12. A potluck supper will begin at 5:30pm, with the business meeting beginning at 6:20pm. This is its second meeting in a row in Bayard, as the local party focuses on building support in the Mining District.

“This meeting is very important,” asserted Frances Vasquez, chair of the GCDP. “We have less than two months before the Nov. 6 election, and it’s critical that we continue our concentrated effort to get out the vote.” Early voting starts October 9 at the Grant County Administration Building, and on October 20 at the Bayard Community Center. All good Democrats, especially those who live in the eastern side of the county where two county commission races are being contested, are urged to come to this meeting to hear from candidates and learn how they can help win in November.

“This election will determine the future of our country, our state, and our county,” continued Ms. Vasquez. “Grant County voters have a chance to put a check on our rogue President by re-electing Senator Martin Heinrich and sending Xochitl Torres Small to Congress. They can turn our state around by electing Michelle Lujan Grisham and Howie Morales as governor and lieutenant governor, and Karen Whitlock and Rudy Martinez to the legislature. And they can continue Democratic leadership in Grant County by electing Chris Ponce and Javier Salas to the County Commission. But these wins for people-oriented policies will only happen if we all work hard from now until Election Day to get voters to the polls.”
