This weekend's Featured Artists of the Grant County Art Guild at the historic Hearst Church Gallery in Pinos Altos, just up Highway 15 from Silver City are: Paula Kopenec (Friday), Ann Nace (Saturday), and Sally Barnes (Sunday).

Paula crafts stunning jewelry à la Kumihimo style. Kumihimo is a Japanese form of braid-making. Cords and ribbons are made by interlacing strands. Kumi himo is Japanese for "gathered threads". Paula uses thread, beads, and decorative buttons as closures on her necklaces and bracelets. Come check out her lovely beaded earrings, too. Paula also creates artistic collages with colorful graphic designs combined with scripture in elegant typeface.

Ann's plein air paintings are about her emotional response to the color of light in a given place and time. She grew up painting watercolors and studied fine art at Kutztown University in her home state of Pennsylvania. Further study at the Cape School of Art, the School of Light and Color and with a variety of inspiring teachers and mentors has enabled her to express her visual experience in paint. Since relocating to New Mexico, Ann has focused on plein air oil painting as a way to continue her exploration of the color of light.

Sally does fabulous pencil as well as pen and ink drawings. Her animal portraits are amazingly lifelike. You may see samples of Sally's drawings on her website at http://sallybarnesart.com.

Hop on Highway 15 North to Pinos Altos this weekend to meet the artists from 10:00-4:00 Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and view a unique historic church built in 1898.
