October 14 at 10:00 a.m., 3845 North Swan Street, "A Journey with Laughter," with speaker Mary Ann Finn.

Mary Ann Finn will discuss the benefits of laughter, including its ability to boost the immune system. She will talk about her experience doing laughter yoga for 11 years in Grant County and elsewhere, and what it has done for her.

While working for the NM Department of Health as a diabetes educator, Finn received training as a Certified Laughter Leader and has led many laughter clubs and laughter yoga sessions, which offer another form of exercise to people with diabetes and other health issues. Although she retired in 2011, she has continued to lead laughter clubs because of the personal benefits.

The discussion will be followed by a few participatory laughter activities that participants may even try at home.

“Laughter has many health benefits but most especially for me, it helps me manage stress, it helps me take myself less seriously, and it helps me relate better to other people and the world,” Finn said.

This will be a Family Program Sunday and children of all ages are invited to participate. October will continue the series called Intangible Gifts, and today the children will learn about “The Gift of Kindness”.

The youth religious exploration group is using the Riddle and Mystery curriculum, which poses a big question each month. In October our big question is "What are we?" which looks at UU identity as a questioning religion and explores the value of participating in a religious community that doesn't offer many doctrinaire answers.

There will be coffee and conversation after the service, and visitors are always welcome. If you’d like to find out more about the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City, email uufellowshipofsilvercity@gmail.com or visit our website here.
