When the final gavel strikes to adjourn the monthly meeting of the Grant County Democratic Party on Wednesday March 13, it will be a moment of change. After four years as Chair and Vice Chair, Frances Vasquez and Shelby Hallmark will be stepping down. “It’s time to pass the gavel,” says Vasquez. “Shelby and I have been honored to serve the community in this capacity, but now new folks with new ideas and new energy are going to take Grant County and the Democratic Party to even greater heights.” Hallmark added, “Our annual Convention, at the Brown Derby in Santa Clara on March 30, will pick a new Chair, Vice Chair, Precinct and Ward Chairs, along with State Central Committee Delegates. This Wednesday meeting provides a great opportunity for those interested in serving to announce their candidacy. And it’s a good time for all Democrats to learn the who, what, when, how and whys of the County Convention.”

Vasquez and Hallmark are proud of the increase in voter turnout during their time in office. Particularly since Grant County voters helped turn New Mexico blue again.

The Wednesday meeting will be in Silver City at 3060 Highway 180 E (32nd Street Bypass) next to the office of Dr. Arizaga. There will be a potluck at 5:30. At 6:05, special guest Susan Beck, retired Colonel U.S. Air Force, will provide information on the current status of the Holloman AFB proposal for F-16 flyovers of our area.

Vasquez adds, “Come join us on Wednesday to prepare for the freewheeling and exciting Convention on the 30th. It’s your party, so come enjoy the fun and the serious business of determining just what the Democratic Party will look like as we prepare for 2020.
