Silver City Community Theatre—SCCT—presents “A Question of Sex, A Farce in One Act” on Friday, May 17, 5-7 pm, at Tranquil Buzz Coffee House, 112 W. Yankie St. at N. Texas St, downtown Silver City. Admission is free; donations are appreciated.

“A farce is comedy that entertains through highly exaggerated, extravagant, and thus improbable situations—in this case, the birth of a baby,” according to Thomas Leeper, SCCT President. “A Question of Sex” was published in 1900 by Arnold Bennett.

“Local talent is essential to community theater. And, we are very pleased to feature four actors who are new to theater in Silver City,” said Leeper.

Bonnie Hall, 41, began acting as a child in Mobile, Alabama, and later worked as an extra in TV shows made in New Orleans, Louisiana. She particularly enjoyed appearances in “Scrooge” and “Gerry Finnegan’s Sister.”

Bernadette Quarrol, 57, has not appeared on stage since high school. “I love live theater,” she said, “and I’m excited to be a part of “A Question of Sex.” In fact, she was so enthusiastic she recruited her husband, Daniel, to perform in the farce.

Daniel Quarrol, 63, studied drama and performed in high school. “This theater reading,” he said, “is a great way to get back on stage again.”

Joe Navan, who admits to “39 plus,” is new to Silver City theater but has acted in more than 250 shows and in 63 theaters in the Phoenix Area alone. Joe says, “I appeared in the chorus of “Oliver” at age 5,” and he has done virtually everything on stage and back stage since.

“SCCT needs to build our pool of talent if we are to continue to present quality theater for our community. “A Question of Sex” is the second in a series of small events to encourage people to get involved—we are recruiting not only actors but also members interested in stage sets and props, makeup and costumes, publicity and ticket sales, directing, writing,” according to Theresa Murphy, SCCT Membership Chair. “For more information visit silvercitycommunitytheater.com.”

Be the community in Community Theater—join SCCT! Individual and family memberships receive tickets and admission to opening night parties and workshops. Additionally, sponsorships are recognized in programs and other publications, according to Murphy.

SCCT grew out of a series of acting classes presented by The Western Institute for Lifelong Learning (WILL). Several class members joined forces to create the Silver City Community Theater. Now after 5 years and many productions, SCCT’s mission continues: to enrich, educate and entertain the Silver City and Grant County communities by providing a broad range of live theater experiences on a recurring, seasonal basis.

SCCT is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
