The film “Happening: A Clean Energy Revolution” will be shown at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall, 3845 N. Swan, on Monday, August 19th at 7pm.  Admission will be by donation and there will be a short comment/discussion time after the showing for members of the audience to comment and make suggestions as to how citizens can make needed changes in our country’s energy economy.

This 2017 HBO documentary film provides viewers with some rare positive news and insights about global warming by showing positive actions that are being taken to combat it.

Through his film, filmmaker Jamie Redford takes viewers on a colorful personal journey into the dawn of the clean energy era as it creates jobs, turns profits, and makes communities stronger and healthier across the US. Unlikely entrepreneurs in communities from Georgetown, Texas to Buffalo, New York reveal pioneering clean energy solutions while Redford's discovery of how clean energy works, and what it means at a personal level, becomes the audiences' discovery too. Reaching well beyond a great story of technology and innovation, "Happening" explores issues of human resilience, social justice, embracing the future, and finding hope for our survival.

After the film, the raffle for the picture, “Love from Guatemala” by Gay Marks will take place. Marks donated this artwork to support the efforts to care for the refugees being temporarily sheltered in Deming before they make the journey to their sponsors. Last minute tickets can be purchased at the screening for $5 each or 5 for $20. Tickets are currently available for purchase at Sterling Fine Art, 306 N. Bullard.

Proceeds from this event will help to continue the work that the UUFSC Social Justice Committee does in supporting immigration reform, income inequality, climate change and other social justice issues in our larger community.
