Silver City, NM, August 19, 2019–PFLAG Silver City and Western New Mexico University School of Education are partnering to provide a free, full-day workshop for educators on Friday, September 13, entitled Creating Inclusive K-12 Schools for LGBTQ+ Students. Teachers and their assistants, administrators, school social workers, health service providers, psychologists, librarians, other school employees, and WNMU students are invited to attend.

The workshop will take place in Room 212 of the Martinez-Fall building on the WNMU campus, and a free, on-site lunch will be catered by Corner Kitchen. GLSEN Albuquerque is providing training which will focus on the needs and rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer students in grades K-12. Participation is limited to forty people, and those interested must register by September 6 at pflagsilver.org. If seats remain unfilled, PFLAG will open the workshop to parents of LGBTQ children and to community groups and healthcare providers that support them. The workshop will begin at 8:00 AM and conclude at 3:30 PM.

To learn more about the workshop or to get on the parent/community waiting list, call 575-590-8797. Founded in 1973 after the simple act of a mother publicly supporting her gay son, PFLAG is the nation's largest family and ally organization.
