Take a bite out of downtown Silver City, NM on Labor Day weekend, as chefs serve up their culinary delights for the 19th annual Taste of Downtown!  Walk around downtown on Saturday, August 31 from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm and get delicious tastes from fifteen eateries. Restaurants, a local brewery, and specialty food establishments are offering delicious, sweet and savory tastes for only $20 a ticket. A bonus taste at the Silco will also be offered!

This year, local food is being featured and a few of the restaurants have incorporated locally grown food into their tastes. Potala Palace, Revel, Silver City Food Co-op and Vicki’s Eatery will all feature local food in their taste. This was one of the original goals of the Taste of Downtown event, to use local food along with introducing residents and visitors to the downtown restaurants.

“We are very happy that these restaurants are using local food, states Patrick Hoskins, President of Silver City MainStreet. Supporting local growers who sell to our independent and local restaurants is a complete circle of sustainability. If you haven’t been downtown recently, this is the day to come downtown and have fun tasting some delicious local food and discovering our great local restaurants. Forty-one downtown Silver City businesses are also participating in the Love Local Celebration offering deals, discounts and more free drawings.”

Some of the tastes to be enjoyed this year include mini sandwich of slow cooked pork with coleslaw and chipotle cream at the Corner Kitchen, a natural and vegan taste at Potala Palace, Italian meatballs in sweet basil red sauce with locally grown basil at Vicki’s Eatery, Black Bean Quinoa Soup at Tapas Tree Grill, brownies at Honeebee Goods, and house made hummus on crostini from Diane’s Restaurant are a few of the sweet and savory tastes that will be served. Other participants include Little Toad Creek, Tranquil Buzz Coffee House, Silver City Food Co-op, Diane’s Bakery and Deli, The Fry House, The Mint Chip, Mick’s 33 Lounge, and Q’s Southern Bistro. A bonus taste at the Silco Theatre will also be available. Silver City MainStreet is grateful to the participating eateries for their support!

Tickets for the Taste of Downtown can be purchased at Vintage Fantasies at 412 N. Bullard St., the Visitor Center on Hudson Street, or online at www.silvercitymainstreet.com.  Tickets are $20 each.
