Clear water, cloudy skies. A canopy of clouds didn't deter adult lap swimmers or children from enjoying the crystal clear waters Tuesday, when the Silver City Municipal Swimming Pool on Silver Street opened for the season.

Lap swimming hours are 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and at least one lane is always reserved for lap swimming. Open or general swimming hours are Monday through Friday and Sunday, 1:00 to 5:00 p.m, and Saturday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. The entrance fee is $4 per person, except for persons aged 62 years and older and children under the age of five who pay $3. On Saturdays everyone swims for free! Take the Corre Camino bus to the pool, save your ticket and receive free pool admission any day of the week.

Night swim hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 6:00 to 9:00 pm.

Seasonal pool passes are also available: a 20-punch card is good for 20 pool entrances and costs $60.00; an individual season pass costs $150, and a family package of four individual season passes can be purchased for $450.

The pool is also available to rent for private pool parties by contacting the pool manager, Dixine Moore, at (575) 388-4165 to schedule a date. The pool is available for parties Friday through Sunday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The cost is between $85 and $110 per hour, depending on the number of persons, and a refundable $50 cleaning deposit is required.
