Hieronymus Bogs

Orchestral Folk/Performance Art

Music: 7:00pm/ by Donation

Hieronymus Bogs’s eclectic blend of orchestral folk, spoken word, and performance art nearly evades traditional classification altogether. Evoking an ancient crooner, Bogs’s voice sits comfortably between Roy Orbison and Scott Walker, with hints of Antony and the Johnsons’s theatricality. Commandingly fusing mystically inspired lyricism and delicately stark instrumentation, his songs set emotions free in an almost hypnotic way.

“It’s refreshing when an artist can embrace his own nakedness. Hieronymus Bogs does this fearlessly.”—Ben Stephanus, With Guitar

Songwriter Series with Jack Lorang /Nate Porter

Folk/ Americana

Music: 7:00pm / by Donation

Born and raised in Lake County, Illinois, and residing for the last decade in Taos, New Mexico, Nate Porter and Jack Lorang are two songwriters from the same town in Illinois who have inspired and influenced each other’s music over the years. They are traveling together across the American West presenting their own unique visions of song. Nate Porter started his musical career in west Oakland, California, where he vivified the psychedelic folk-rock scene in bands such as The New Sun Company and Caravan 222. Jack Lorang has been writing songs for over twenty years. He has spent the last decade creating, performing and organizing events in the desert highlands near Taos, New Mexico. His songs reflect the sparse, rugged beauty of the landscape and the expansive splendor of the night sky.

Brea Burns & the Bolaros/ Katie May

Honky Tonk/Country

Music: 7:00pm/ $10 cover

Brea Burns and the Boleros are a Classic Honky Tonk band out of Phoenix, Arizona.

The group has been called 'Hank Williams and Wanda Jackson meeting Country Music's future'.

Brea's well-crafted songs take the listener on a journey through cheating, heartaches, honky tonks, and everything in between. Their unique sound is steeped in all the best aspects of traditional Country and Rockabilly music, with a fresh approach that keeps the modern listener engaged. The band's dynamic live performance has found them sharing the stage with many roots music legends, including Dale Watson, Billy Joe Shaver, Wayne Hancock, Kim Lenz, Big Sandy and his Fly-Rite boys, Junior Brown, and Asleep at the Wheel, among others. We are excited to welcome them to the Zócalo.

Katie Mae plays interpretive country & alt-western music, though she first took to a stage as the vocalist for a local punk band (and still does). Her style speaks to her authenticity, and vulnerability. “My favorite performers are those who seem to be entranced in their own hypnotic spell. They transcend deep into altered states of consciousness & invite you along for the ride. Katie Mae is one of those performers.” -R.W. Tudor, Anything But Mainstream Records

Three Acts in One Night!

Ak'chamel – Performance Art/Dark Instrumental

Music: 5:00pm in ‘The Lodge’/ by Donation

Few bands are as inscrutable as the mysterious Texas duo, Ak’chamel. The pair are known for their countless cassettes, films, and full-length records (such as the publicly and critically acclaimed ‘The Totemist’), as well as for performing their ritualistic sounds in homespun costumes with self-made instruments.

Casper Allen/ Kirk Mathews

Roots Americana

Music: 7:00pm/ by Donation

After years of singing accompanied only by his own guitar, Allen has built a strong performing catalog of original songs and hidden gems of the American songbook. “Some voices carry within them the weight of a thousand lifetimes filled with haunting pain, love and a wholehearted sincerity which cannot be doubted. Texas born and Colorado based Casper Allen has one of these timeless and powerful voices and a real-life story behind his profound songs.”~ Houston Press.

Kirk Mathews is a great friend & a great songwriter. Blending Southwestern style with urban folk, creating a unique sound in today's vast music landscape. With resemblances that evoke traces of Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and at times Bruce Springsteen, Matthew’s sound is steeped in timeless story-telling, experience and soothing melodies.
