Silver City, NM – The search for a theme song has begun by the Grant County Chicano Music Project with the announcement of its singer/songwriter competition. Interested competition entrants are tasked to pen a song, which may be selected as thetheme song for an upcoming documentary celebrating Grant County Chicano musicians.
 
Entries must consist of original songs between three and a half and five minutes long, and are being sought from anyone who is or has been a resident of Grant County. The entries can be from a single songwriter or a group of musicians. Lyricsmust be submitted no later than Friday, April 19, 2013. A panel of judges will consider the entries and five finalists will be selected.
 
All finalists must provide their own instruments and be willing to perform their song at a live event to be held on June 1, 2013. At that time, the finalists will perform for a panel of judges, and audience participation will also account for part of the judging process. The winner will be announced at the premiere of the Grant County Chicano Music Project documentary on August 31, 2013.
 
Songs may be submitted in English, Spanish, or a combination of the two. The theme of the song should reflect the heritage that Chicano musicians have given our community from the post World War II era to present day.
